Enyia Loves YSL FALL FASHION 2011

This collection is the result of a whole lot of  studying of the YSL house archives.  The beautiful catsuits and the double-breasted coat-dress , clasped at the waist with a half-belt, ending at mid-thigh, had an early-sixties precision, just as the sweeping palazzo-panted volumes of the finale reeked of late-seventies fabulousity.  Yet still captures decades into a single strong statement that spoke of the here and now. The lean, boyish silhouette ,a skirt suit, sweater, and pants; fabrics as classic as a Vidal Sassoon bob. YSL Fall 2011 is deconstructing, reconstructing, exploding patterns, yet keeping dimensions ultra-lean. A beautiful balance between sacred and profane. That kind of equilibrium seemed like the true  essence of  YSL

To Tip or Not to Tip?...That is Always the Question

Beauty Salon Etiquette
Do You Know How Much To Tip? A good general guide to beauty salon etiquette. It includes tipping, a tipping guide and appointments-making etiquette. Referenced from Emily Post Manners.

If only everyone who offered a service of any kind were paid so well that he or she did not need to depend on tips, but unfortunately this is not the case. We must remember that many people are dependent on tips as part of their salary.
However, if the service is bad, they are rude, careless or inattentive, leave no tip and speak to the manager.
There is the argument that if we continue tipping despite bad service, we might as well make the tip mandatory because it fails the purpose of the 'system'.
What do you think? We will discuss this further below.

Who To Tip?
It can be confusing to know who should be tipped and how much because sometimes more than one beautician is involved in your appointment.
Beauty Salon Etiquette: Check the totals for each service provided when you are given the bill.Base your tip off the percentages of the bill. For instance, manicurist $12, hair styling $20etc. Alternatively, you can follow the beauty salon etiquette tipping guide below.
If there is a "service charge" on the bill, then you do not have to tip.

How Much To Tip?.
Beauty Salon Etiquette Tipping Guide:
  • Colorists - 15 to 20 percent
  • Hair Stylist - 15 to 20 percent
  • Shampoo person - $1 - $3
  • Manicurist - $2 for simple manicures or 15-20 percent otherwise
  • Facial, make up, waxing or other personal service - 15 percent
In salons where there is a coatroom/changing room matron, $1 is the standard tip. If there is a fee for that, do not leave a tip.

When Tipping is Not Needed in Beauty Salon Etiquette
International travel tip:
A common feature of beauty salons in many other countries is that a service has a service charge automatically added to your bill to cover gratuities. In that case, an additional tip is not expected.

Making Appointments - The Elegant Way
The most common areas of concern of beauty salon etiquette are making appointments, being on time, and communicating with the beauty salon.
If you are in a less busy city where beauty salons are generally quiet with a handful of clients a day, you may walk in and ask for an appointment immediately. Otherwise, salons always appreciate an appointment before hand.
If you did not have the beauty salon's number, you can try your luck to see if they have a free slot. If you are late for your appointment, try to call at least 15 minutes in advance. Usually 15 minutes before the appointment time, we'll already know whether we will be late or not. This is out of consideration for others.
If you are not going to make your appointment, please call and cancel.
Not showing for an appointment is extremely rude. People often do not care because it doesn't not make a difference to their pocketbook. The beauty salon could have scheduled another client on that same time slot allocated. As a client, we also do not appreciate it when we arrive and find our time slot has been taken.

When we arrive and we find ourselves waiting, allow yourself about fifteen minutes of waiting time before you get annoyed. Sometimes another client's hair may have been more difficult to manage so on and so forth.

Mo Says...It may be time to LEAVE Chemicals ALONE

Irreconcilable Differences

Clients who have successfully cherished using hair chemicals are puzzled as to where the problems began, but notice their relationship has been in major turmoil for a while. Chalk it up to Irreconcilable Differences and here are 3 signs that you may have to leave the chemicals alone.

1. Hair loss or unexplainable thinning from the root. The perimeter or edges, especially the temples, are usually the first sign of an issue mostly at the root area. Ladies, if you are in your thirties or better you know what I am talking about. If you are young and your breast still stand up on their own…. Just keep living. My motto has been almost everything in moderation. Well…….. over 10 years of chemical use exceeds moderation.

2. The loss of luster and shine. Healthy hair has a natural luster so if you have noticed the loss of your hair's natural glow and the only way to replenish it, is with color, you may need to re-evaluate the use of chemicals.

3. If you are unable to stabilize a sensitive scalp, chances are the chemicals you are using are the main culprit.

Separation is never easy but sometimes imperative to a healthy head of hair, so consider your current state, discuss the transition with your hair care provider and make the best choice for you. Texture is beautiful, is it time for you to embrace yours?

What's Wrong with My Hair???

Keratriplex $30
At enyiaanise we know MANY FACTORS PLAY A ROLE IN BAD HAIR...
Hormones: As women go through hormonal changes during and after menopause, or after pregnancy, they often experience hair loss. Once hormonal levels become balanced, this loss will be halted. One of the most common causes of hair loss is low thyroid function, so if you're experiencing hair loss, it's a good idea to have your thyroid levels checked by an endocrinologist.

Smoking: Smoking destroys vitamin C, which is an essential nutrient for nourishing hair follicles and clearing toxins from the body. Nicotine causes blood vessels to constrict, making it harder for nutrients to reach the skin and hair and for waste to be eliminated.

Genetic factors: Male pattern baldness can be passed on genetically, as well as other predispositions that can affect overall health and the health of the hair.

Vegan Smoothing Treatment $190
Medications: Drugs such as those used in cancer treatment (chemotherapy), anesthetics, anticoagulants (used to thin the blood) and oral contraceptives can cause temporary hair loss. It's important to consult with your doctor before making any changes to your prescribed medications. Dietary changes and properly prescribed natural supplements can greatly improve hair and scalp conditions.

Environment: Environmental factors such as air conditioning and indoor heating can dry out the hair and leave it lackluster. Treated water in swimming pools can also dry the hair and irritate the scalp, as can overexposure to sun. So, if you're in a hot climate, it's a good idea to keep your hair covered if you're outdoors a lot.

Processing: Excess blow-drying, straightening, curling, perming, bleaching and dyeing can give you instant gratification, but over a period of time, it also dries out and damages the hair.

Stress: When you're under stress, it's easy to let basic health habits go. Unfortunately, this results in poor health, which is reflected in the health of the hair. Tension in the scalp restricts the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles.

Keratin Smoothing Treatment $260

Eat Your Way to Healthy, Radiant Hair

What to Feed Your Hair to Make It Healthy
Taken from an article by Aine McAteer

At enyiaanise beauty bar we know diet plays such a vital role in the health and beauty of the hair, here is a list of food and nutrients that are particularly nourishing...

Seaweed: Are you going gray? a few months of having a daily dose of seaweed, you can regained your haircolor. Seaweed contains a wealth of nutrients vital to overall health and healthy hair, including iodine, iron, calcium, magnesium, niacin, zinc, sodium, potassium and a range of vitamins.
Seaweed also has the ability to bind with toxins and expel them from the body, keeping your body cleansed from the inside out. As an alternative, you could take a kelp supplement so you still get the benefits of the seaweed.

Leafy greens: Leafy greens contain large amounts of vitamins A and C, which the body uses to make sebum, which is secreted by the hair follicles and keeps the hair glossy and in good condition. Greens are also rich in minerals, including iron vital to hair health.

Pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts: As well as being good sources of Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils, pumpkin seeds and Brazil nuts are good sources of zinc and selenium, which are vital nutrients for hair health.

Brown rice: its recommended that vegetable protein in the form of grains and beans for optimum nutrition. Brown rice is also a good source of the stress-relieving B vitamins.

Beans: Beans are an excellent vegetarian source of protein, essential to hair health. They're also a good source of iron, folic acid and B vitamins, nutrients necessary for healthy, shiny hair. Combine with whole grains such as brown rice or quinoa to make a complete protein.

Essential fatty acids (EFAs): As the name implies, these are essential for the structure of every cell membrane as well as healthy joints, circulation, heart function, glowing skin and shiny hair. The body cannot make its own supply, so it's essential to get them from foods. EFAs fall into two groups: omega-3, found in oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna, as well as flaxseeds and walnuts; and omega-6, found in seeds such as chia seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and nuts. Good-quality supplements of evening primrose oil and borage oil also provide omega-6 in a specially converted form known as gamma linoleic acid (GLA). Hemp seeds are another wonderful source of GLA and omega-3.

Silica: A trace mineral is a vital nutrient for healthy hair and also for strong teeth and bones. Silica helps the body utilize other minerals such as boron, copper, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus. There are several food sources of silica, including seaweed, oats, millet, barley and whole wheat. You could take a silica supplement if your hair needs a boost.
